I'm reading a book called escape from warsaw that is based off the experience of joseph balicki, in a prison camp in zakyna. this story takes place in the year 1942. During this time, there were two major EVENTS OCCURRING: World war two and the infamous holocaust. these two events shaped certain modern day views on certain peoples and religions and is still talked about and taught worldwide.

My book, escape from warsaw, takes place during wwii. THROUGHOUT the war, there was a mass genocide known as the holocaust. this is probably the most impacting part of the war considering how its widespread taught across the globe and has arisen much controversy to this day. not to mention the significance of hitler in this story. if it weren't for the nazis rise to power, our main character joseph would not have turned over a picture of hitler that was placed on the wall, resulting to a normal life with his family. aI've reached the conclusion of my book, escape from warsaw, and the balicki family along with jan have made it to their safe haven in switzerland. they all came from different places, however. Joseph escaped his prison camp and made it to the city where he met jan in the ruins of his old home. Ruth, edek, and bronia escaped warsaw after their mother was taken away by nazi storm troopers. they all had one goal set in their minds: to make it to switzerland alive, and then to find the rest of their families.
There is a rising issue in the Raleigh community, and that is poverty rate. More and more people are falling into poverty each year. In fact, the growth rate of poverty in NC makes in the 3rd national place where poverty growth was a problem as of late 2017. More than 16% of Raleigh's entire population is in poverty.
I am interested in this topic because I will always do what I can to help out my community. Others in my community may be effected because they are part of the 16% and need assistance in things pertaining to daily life. I think other people should care about situations like these because it could end up falling into the 16% and they could get the assistance they may need with proper knowledge of the situation. To help with this issue, students and parents can reach out and drive to help support those in need. We just have to band together and help out our community. I believe that it can be okay to fail at something as long as you learn from the experience. I believe this because one day I was coming home from school with a bad grade on a test. The bus shaked and so did my hands with the paper in them. I stared at it, thinking, “What should I do? Should I tell them? What will they say?” Tens of scenarios went through my head. “Maybe they’ll take my phone or PS4 away. Maybe they’ll ground me. Maybe they’ll just scold me.” I was terrified. I had no idea what would be in store for me.
My friends tried to comfort me by saying that “it’s okay” and that “everything would be okay” as the bus slowed down and started to shake and rattle as it came to a stop. I trembled in fear as I started to walk toward my house and I began to shake and started to breathe faster. I stood outside my door. I had just stared at the door for about a minute straight and took a deep breath. I walked into the house and my mom asked me how my day at school was. I had no idea what to tell her. I didn’t want to upset her or my dad. “I got a bad grade on this test I took today. I’m so so sorry.” I told them. My mom took the test and said “It’s okay. Do you understand why you got this grade and do you understand the topic now?” I told her yes. And the greatest thing happened. She said that “It is okay to fail a test sometimes. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Everybody has rough days. But I know that you can and will do better.” I was relieved and had instantly calmed down. Because of this experience I realized that it is okay to fail because it is natural and everyone will fail at something. Now I have learned from the experience and always try to push myself to do the best I can. I still have failed papers and tests but every time I learn that I can and will always do better. If you fail something and don’t learn from the experience, you’ll keep on failing and it will have a negative effect on you. |
